Week 31 Swimming and Honey Bees :)

This week I had some fun. I went swimming in a big deep pool under a waterfall. O and I photographed it too. Which was difficult because it was evening and the best view of the fall was from the east. I would like to go back their in the morning if I can manage to get myself out of bed early enough. I did however like the way the sun backlight the cedar tree making it glow and if I blocked the sun with the tree trunk the glare went away. I also had the delightful experience of watching my parents jar up the almost five gallons of fresh honey our bees managed to make. We have tried having bees many times over many years but they always dies over our long cold winter. This time we worked harder and fed them pounds and pounds of sugar water in the fall to help them get settled and it worked. They made it through the winter intact and were even able to produce surplus honey for our consumption. And let me tell you how good that honey tasted freshly extracted from the cones it was spectacular and so much more that we had hoped for, that they would live and pollenate our garden. Finally the last few photographs are of the big work party this weekend at a friends house, or should I say soon to be built house, that is what we were working on. I guess from what people keep telling me it is kind-of an odd thing to have a work party and actually have people come of their own free will to work. But for Finland MN that is a norm. The main task was leveling the foundation and pulling nails from a pile of salvaged wood.

Week 27 FGC!

I have so many favorite photographs from this week. I was at FGC(Friends General Conference) so there was loads to photograph and I was in a photography workshop so I was even more photographically active then usual. I worked very hard to slim down the hundreds to just these few very best. The last two you need to know a little bit about the Quaker activities durring FGC. The first of the two is of wink which is a wrestling and kissing game. I wont go into the full description here but check out this article that talkes about it, http://quaker.wikia.com/wiki/Wink_(game). I will say however that it can be extremely photographic but is a good challenge to photograph successfully. The very last photograph is of one of the AYFers(Adult Young Friends) participating in the ritual celebration feast at the end of the week. It is done in worshipful silence and you can NOT feed yourself but have to be fed by others, and you get to feed others :) Loads of fun and a great way to wrap up a bondin…

Week 24 Farm Work

This week there was lots of work to do on Round River Farm. The biggest task being cleaning all the manure out of the barn and chicken coop. It made a huge pile. There were also lots of vegetables as is to be expected. I also took a walk to the nearby lake and saw some beautiful flowers.

Week 50 Snow
