Week 28 Round River Farm

This week was farm focused, fortunately we had a good sized team to do all the harvesting. It was the first week of pea picking and it took hours to pick them all. Then we still had to harvest all the other vegetables. I really didn't know which photograph to pick as my favorite for this week but I do like the group photograph above and am happy with the quality I was able to attain with harsh late morning light, a bad angle(so the gardens would be in the background), and no shade. I ended up using a fill flash at close range to lift the shadows then brought them up even more in post processing. This week we also set off some small fireworks courtesy of Laura and found some baby grouse.

Week 27 FGC!

I have so many favorite photographs from this week. I was at FGC(Friends General Conference) so there was loads to photograph and I was in a photography workshop so I was even more photographically active then usual. I worked very hard to slim down the hundreds to just these few very best. The last two you need to know a little bit about the Quaker activities durring FGC. The first of the two is of wink which is a wrestling and kissing game. I wont go into the full description here but check out this article that talkes about it,  http://quaker.wikia.com/wiki/Wink_(game) . I will say however that it can be extremely photographic but is a good challenge to photograph successfully. The very last photograph is of one of the AYFers(Adult Young Friends) participating in the ritual celebration feast at the end of the week. It is done in worshipful silence and you can NOT feed yourself but have to be fed by others, and you get to feed others :) Loads of fun and a great way to wrap up a bo

Week 26 Sheep Sheering

This week lots of things happened one of which was that we sheered the sheep which is not especially hard since ours are so friendly. Lise is the master wool cutting artison. We also went swimming in Lake Superior. Then I drove for two days, it was supposed to take three days, to get to FGC(Friends General Conference).

Week 25 Bunnies!

This week I was tasked with photographing Laura's bunnies. She has two and they are extremely cute as you can tell from these photographs. Being bunnies they moved a lot but I did manage to make a few good photographs.

Week 24 Farm Work

This week there was lots of work to do on Round River Farm. The biggest task being cleaning all the manure out of the barn and chicken coop. It made a huge pile. There were also lots of vegetables as is to be expected. I also took a walk to the nearby lake and saw some beautiful flowers.

Week 23 Round River Farm

It was a busy week on the farm this week. Full of huge piles of radishes that had to be harvested, washed, sorted and spread among all 48 coolers. We run a CSA(Community Supported Agriculture) where people pay upfront to receive a cooler, or a portion of, full of the veggies in season each week of the summer. I also found and photographed a luna moth. I had accidentally nocked two out of a tree and one seamed inured which was sad but ment that it held still enough to photograph. Finally the last photograph is of the awards given to the graduation Naturalists at Wolf Ridge ELC near my house.
