Week 18 Beavers, Beavers and More Beavers

This week I went on a walk to the little lake near my house. As usual I brought my camera hoping to catch a sighting, and some photographs, of the beaver family living at the lake. Other times when I have done exactly the same thing I have not had any special wildlife spottings but this time was a true adventure. A friend and I took the long way to the lake and stopped by the doom overlook first. Because of that we arrived at the opposite end of the lake than usual. What would be our luck but when we first arrive there is a pair of loons swimming around. We stand real quietly and they decide to come a little closer and check us out. Well at this point we are very pleased because loons are beautiful and such elegant creatures. So we start walking down the shore moving along our roundabout way home. Lo and behold as we come out of a group of trees but we see a beaver swim away from the shore directly ahead of us. We are just tickled now and we stop and watch the beaver swim back ove

Week 17 Northern Lights

I had some fun photo projects this week. Firstly I finally got my first chance to try photographing the northern lights. It was very interesting because there weren't the usual flowing waves that you usually see photos of northern lights but instead the entire sky was lit up with green and you could see clouds moving over that green. That is why the land also looks green in the photograph because it was being lit by the northern lights. It was so amazing and the entier sky north and south was glowing. I also took a walk to a nearby lake and ended up making some nice photographs of the first flowers of the season. It was really fun reenforcing what I already knew about depth of field and being able to see its effect so clearly. It is amazing how it can change a photograph and one is not necessarily better than the other.

Week 16 Potluck

This week the Community Theatre production of Grease finished and we had the traditional big community set takedown followed by a potluck. It was all loads of fun although I missed a bunch of the teardown because it was all finished so fast. I also made some photographs and enjoyed playing around with my flash off camera.

Week 15 Grease

This week there was the first three of five showings of Grease in the local community theatre in Silver Bay. I have been very active with the theatre when I am in Finland MN and really enjoyed seeing what is probably one of our top productions. It was also the 10 year anniversary for the theatre and really what a showing it has made with the majority of the productions being large 150 people plus musicals. I consider this one of the best community theaters anywhere. My dad is in the production this year so I went to the last dress rehearsal and made some photographs. I got a lot of nice ones even with the extremely challenging lighting conditions. Some highlights I have included here.
